Live Nation proudly presents PUNK ROCKS 2008 featuring NOFX, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bouncing Souls, Circle Jerks, Street Dogs and Frontside Fiveat Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Friday August 22.
The idea behind Punk Rocks was to create a more traditional, old school punk rock festival for Colorado and host it annually in the most spectacular setting possible; the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The line up for this 1st annual event blends together old school punk legends NOFX and Circle Jerks with more contemporary acts that carry on the old school street punk vibe; namely Bouncing Souls and Street Dogs. Throw in an unheard of and highly anticipated Colorado reunion for incredible ska punk legends The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, add local skate punk heroes Frontside Five and the line up becomes as monumental as the venue in which it is set to play.
NOFX - Formed in Berkeley, CA, in 1983 and relocating to Los Angeles not long afterwards, NOFX are an old school punk rock band diverse in their sound. Some songs could be classified as pop-punk, ska, hardcore, rock, and more.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Hitting the scene in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985, the Bosstones are credited with the creation of the ska-core genre, a form of music that eloquently blends elements of third wave ska with hardcore punk.
Bouncing Souls – Created in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1987, the Bouncing Souls started out with the intention of playing loud fast three-chord punk rock music in and around their home state. By the time they were acknowledged by the national punk scene, they had reignited a "pogo" element to the New Jersey scene by playing fast light-hearted songs, a model soon copied by many other bands at the time.
Circle Jerks – Assembled in Hermosa Beach, California circa 1979, the Circle Jerks are a hardcore punk band formed by original Black Flag lead singer Keith Morris and future Bad Religion guitarist Greg Hetson. They were among the preeminent punk bands of the L.A. scene in the early 1980s and hold legendary status in the annals of old school punk rock history.
Street Dogs – Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, the Street Dogs have an ability to craft unique, thought provoking music that has helped the band amass a dedicated following over the years. Singer Mike McColgan, having served in the Gulf War and as a Boston firefighter, draws on a wealth of life experiences and observations to inspire his impassioned vocal performances.
Frontside Five – Having come to life in a downtown Denver garage during the summer of 2002 by a group of friends who shared a common idea, Frontside Five created original, fast, powerful skate rock inspired by the things they loved and hated the most.
