When a band spends the bulk of its year on the road, its members are bound to have their share of trouble and strife. But only the truly talented are able to take those trying experiences and turn them into enduring art. The Randy Rogers Band is one of those few, and they’ve transformed coal into diamonds yet again on their latest album for MCA Nashville, Trouble. A blessing for both the group and for their passionate fan base, w ho will no doubt connect with the 11 tracks of Trouble, the band’s eighth album. The band has always enjoyed critical acclaim, thanks to their signature blend of outlaw edge coupled with guy-next-door charm. This album takes that duality to the next level. There’s a certain cachet attached to the group—an authenticity that can’t be manufactured, and one that is often coveted by other artists. “We work hard touring, building up our fan base and putting on a good show night after night, over 200 nights a year. "We know that summer has truly arrived in Colorado when film fans flock to Film on the Rocks, the Front Range’s annual outdoor hit summer series," said Britta Erickson, festival director for the Denver Film Society. "It’s the ideal combination of music and film in one of the most beautiful settings in our state. Nothing beats an affordable evening at Red Rocks in the summertime.”

This season features a look back in time, some risky business activities, mean girls, bluesy brothers and a few games involving hunger along with princesses looking to get married. The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

“Peak Experience” ticket packages return again this season for the ultimate Film on the Rocks experience. For each show guests can choose to roll like a VIP by selecting the Party Bus VIP ticket with food, drinks and a ride to and from the show from Rackhouse Pub or the Trading Post Pre-Party VIP ticket with catering by Steuben’s. Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The first film screened in the program was Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER. In 2012, more than 60,000people attended Film on the Rocks events.

With half a dozen shows and counting already sold out--including New York's Barclays Center Arena where a second date has been added by popular demand--The Postal Service has announced nearly 20 more additional headline engagements to the tour commemorating the April 9 release of its Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition) on Sub Pop.

The newly announced additions to The Postal Service's first headline tour in decade include stops at more of North America's premiere arenas, amphitheaters and more, including Red Rocks in Morrison CO, Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD, the Greek Theater in Berkeley CA, and many more.

In addition to the already sold out return to New York June 14 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, all tickets for The Postal Service’s UK headline dates are now gone: May 19 and 20 at London’s Brixton Academy are both sold out immediately, while May 18 at Manchester’s Academy 2 has been bumped up to the larger Academy and sold out again. The band’s shows at the Mondavi Center in Davis CA on April 10 and the Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo CA on April 12, also sold out within minutes, and April 19 at Las Vegas' Chelsea Ballroom at the Cosmopolitan is now sold out as well.

Pre-sale tickets for the new dates will be available directly from The Postal Service Wednesday, February 20 at 10am local venue time. By purchasing tickets through this pre-sale fans will gain early access to tickets and save money on ticketing fees.

The Postal Service 10th anniversary tour will reunite Postal Service principals Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello with Jenny Lewis (Jenny & Johnny, Rilo Kiley), who appeared on the original album and played with the band on its 2003 dates. Lewis also sings on the two new songs on Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition). Laura Burhenn (Mynabirds, Bright Eyes) rounds out the 2013 touring lineup.

The Postal Service and Sub Pop Records' pre-order for Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition) is live now, with configurations including a limited 3-LP edition on red, clear and white vinyl available through subpop.com and postalservicemusic.net. All pre-orders will immediately receive a download of the previously unreleased single “A Tattered Line of String.”

Give Up was certified platinum last year just shy of 10 years from its original February 9, 2003 release. Led by the single “Such Great Heights,” the landmark album is, after Nirvana’s Bleach, the second-biggest selling album in Sub Pop’s nearly 25-year history.

In what is obviously a "dream" pairing, or some might say a "nightmare," Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson will be teaming up for the "Masters of Madness" tour June 1 through 28. Following recent pairings of Alice with Rob Zombie and then Rob Zombie with Manson, this combination of Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson has been long-awaited by fans of both artists. Alice Cooper is a true rock icon, having pioneered the use of theatrics and shocking images onstage in concerts from the earliest days of the original band of the same name. Since going solo, he has continued to produce elaborate stage shows providing fans with both shock and rock of the highest caliber. Inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, Alice has toured and recorded continuously, with his most recent album being Welcome 2 My Nightmare through UMe. "We know that summer has truly arrived in Colorado when film fans flock to Film on the Rocks, the Front Range’s annual outdoor hit summer series," said Britta Erickson, festival director for the Denver Film Society. "It’s the ideal combination of music and film in one of the most beautiful settings in our state. Nothing beats an affordable evening at Red Rocks in the summertime.”

This season features a look back in time, some risky business activities, mean girls, bluesy brothers and a few games involving hunger along with princesses looking to get married. The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

“Peak Experience” ticket packages return again this season for the ultimate Film on the Rocks experience. For each show guests can choose to roll like a VIP by selecting the Party Bus VIP ticket with food, drinks and a ride to and from the show from Rackhouse Pub or the Trading Post Pre-Party VIP ticket with catering by Steuben’s. Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The first film screened in the program was Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER. In 2012, more than 60,000people attended Film on the Rocks events.

Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The first film screened in the program was Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER. In 2012, more than 60,000people attended Film on the Rocks events.

Tedeschi Trucks Band, the Grammy winning 11-member blues-rock group led by husband-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, have proven to be one of the hottest, most uplifting acts on the road today. This year the Tedeschi Trucks Band is teaming up with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals to deliver another star-packed show to Colorado.

Formed in 2010 when Derek and Susan decided to set aside their successful solo careers and join forces, Tedeschi Trucks Band has since been touring the globe - and accruing fans and accolades in the process. Fronted by Trucks' signature slide-guitar sound and Tedeschi's pliant, honey-to-husky voice, TTB -- as their fans know them -- delivers a hearty roots-rich musical blend of rock, blues, jazz, gospel, funk and soul. Their joyful, spontaneous energy, and overflowing musical talent, have helped Tedeschi Trucks Band's debut, Revelator, win a Grammy for Best Blues Album and four Blues Music Awards. In May 2012, TTB followed with its first live album Everybody's Talkin' - a double CD set of originals and vibrant covers that showcased the band's dynamic energy on stage.

2012 also saw Trucks and Tedeschi honored with invitations to perform at the White House, joining Mick Jagger, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy to celebrate the blues -- at the Apollo Theater, joining Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and a host of blues guitar heavyweights in an all-star tribute to bluesman Hubert Sumlin -- at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where Trucks helped to posthumously induct blues legend Freddie King -- and at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, joining Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder and others to celebrate the first annual International Jazz Day. Grace Potter & The Nocturnals’ self-made 2005 debut album, Nothing but the Water revealed a musically sophisticated young band inspired by the music of the late ’60s/early ’70s and fronted by a then-21-year-old dynamo whose nuanced singing, organ playing and songwriting belied her age. Their major label follow-up, 2007’s This Is Somewhere, confirmed that the band had no interest in following trends but was instead in pursuit of timeless expression as it forged its identity. On 2010’s self-titled third album, GPN, toughened by a half decade of nonstop roadwork, flexed their rock ’n’ roll muscles and confirmed that they were in it for the long haul.

Now, eight years after hitting the radar, GPN take an exponential leap with the widescreen opus THE LION THE BEAST THE BEAT (Hollywood, June 12, 2012). With this critically acclaimed album, and sold-out shows all across the country, the Vermont-based band forcefully takes its place alongside the best of its peers while building on the rich legacy of its inspirations. During this a la carte age, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals have boldly pushed against the current, making a bona fide album that demands to be heard in its entirety . . . not that its 11 songs don’t utterly beguile on their own. “This album is really a different animal than our previous records—no pun intended,” says Potter.

This season features a look back in time, some risky business activities, mean girls, bluesy brothers and a few games involving hunger along with princesses looking to get married. The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

Create Denver celebrates the solstice and City Beautiful 2.0 by calling the public to come play in the park, ending the night with a 3-D video mapping display by Legwork Studio & Ceavco Audio Visual on the back of the McNichols Civic Center Building.

Beginning in 1904, Mayor Robert Speer took steps to implement The City Beautiful movement. The movement, rooted in the belief that landscape, city planning and architecture elevated the lives and health of citizens, took Denver from a dusty frontier town to an economic hub and destination for visitors.

City Beautiful 2.0 incorporates these progressive era initiatives and provides Create Denver the opportunity to demonstrate the McNichols Civic Center Building 3rd floor as an installation and co-working destination through experiments in the use of space and exploration of citizen engagement to generate ideas for future integration of the building with its surrounding built environment.

This purposeful installation will address core messages:

O.A.R. Announces 29-Date Sounds of Summer Tour

Touring powerhouse O.A.R. has announced their 29-date Sounds of Summer Tour which will include performances at Citi Field, Merriweather Post Pavilion, PNC Bank Arts Center and a return to Red Rocks Amphitheater where the band recorded their live 2012 CD and DVD, Live on Red Rocks. The double disc CD set and DVD, “by one of the tightest live bands at work these days” (The Oklahoman), were both released on November 19th with a Blu-ray version of the concert DVD being released on March 19th.

The tour begins on June 7th in Norfolk, VA and concludes in Holmdel, NJ on August 3rd. Joining the band on the road this summer will be special guests Andrew McMahon and Allen Stone. This season features a look back in time, some risky business activities, mean girls, bluesy brothers and a few games involving hunger along with princesses looking to get married. The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

“Peak Experience” ticket packages return again this season for the ultimate Film on the Rocks experience. For each show guests can choose to roll like a VIP by selecting the Party Bus VIP ticket with food, drinks and a ride to and from the show from Rackhouse Pub or the Trading Post Pre-Party VIP ticket with catering by Steuben’s. Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Eighteen years after scoring the Grammy Award winning, harmonica laced Billboard Top Ten breakthrough hit that came to define pop music in the mid-90s, Blues Traveler are still finding unique ways to ensure that they don’t give their legion of worldwide fans the “Run-Around.” On their instantly infectious, musically expansive 11th studio album and 429 Records/SLG debut, Suzie Cracks The Whip, they remain creatively focused while dramatically expanding their musical horizons upon celebrating over 25 years as a band.

Blues Traveler trademark sound was electrifying fans around the world, to the tune of approximately 30 million people and upwards of 6,000 live shows over the band’s now 26 year history. Beyond the commercial success of their recordings, which have sold in excess of 13 million combined units worldwide, Blues Traveler has long been known for the extensive use of segues, multiple song mash-ups and extensive instrumental jams in their live performances.

Blues Traveler’s road to posterity moved from the burbs of Jersey to NYC in the late ’80s, where they became part of a jam-band scene and shared bills with groups like Spin Doctors and Phish, founding the Horde festival and pioneering the subsequent movement of neo-hippie jam music. Represented early on by Bill Graham and son David, Blues Traveler’s live reputation led to a deal with A&M Records; their 1990 self-titled debut eventually going gold simultaneously with the album Four. While putting out a string of popular albums in the 90s, the band endured its share of mettle-testing adversity, from Popper’s near fatal motorcycle accident (he recorded and toured while in a wheelchair for two years) and the tragic loss in 1999 of founding bassist Bobby Sheehan at the age of 31. True to its name, the band traveled on, with Tad Kinchla on bass and Ben Wilson on keyboards, both being in the band as long as Sheehan.

The band has kept up an average touring pace of 250 shows per year, whether there has been a new release attached to the jaunt or not. Their studio output during this time included Truth Be Told (2003), Bastardos! (2005), the all-acoustic covers album Cover Yourself (2007) and North Hollywood Shootout (2008). Blues Traveler launched 2012 with a joyfully exhaustive look back on a quarter century since they first gathered in a Princeton basement and laid the foundation for a hybrid vibe that draws from blues-rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock, soul and Southern Rock. As one of their more notable EPs states, they are likely, for all intensive purposes, on tour forever.

Robert Plant Presents the Sensational Space Shifters has announced its first North American tour dates. This dynamic and powerful new incarnation of Plant’s musical vision has been touring the world, most recently in Australia and New Zealand. One of a generation of British kids, drawn without rhyme or reason, to sounds from a far away world. A world of field holler, despair, Levee camp and chain- gang moans; of Saturday night fish-fry and Juke Joint foot stomp. A million miles lay between the brooding pulse of Mississippi Delta life and the sanitized shelter of the timid English boy, circa 1962.

Fifty years on -- drawing from a lifetime of adventures, tracking the dark, beautiful resonator, Plant follows his heart and lifts his voice higher and joyous ever away. A voice of experience and learning from the sounds of Southside Chicago Electric Blues; of Griot mantras from West Africa; from Louisiana Dance Halls; Greenwich Village Folk hangover; Haight Ashbury indulgences; Moroccan medina breakbeat; the early English radical techno materials, Texas two-step and Bristol Dubstep.

Before his recent projects in Nashville with Alison Krauss and Band of Joy, Plant worked alongside the very interesting force, “Strange Sensation”, recording the critically acclaimed, multi-Grammy nominated albums – Dreamland and Mighty Rearranger. From this platform, Sensational Space Shifters has developed. Now together these confederates and conspirators dig deeper and more intensely, always twisting and turning, bringing the past into a brilliant technicolour present.

The members of RAILROAD EARTH aren’t losing any sleep about what “kind” of music they play – they just play it. When they started out in 2001, they were a bunch of guys interested in playing acoustic instruments together. As Railroad Earth violin/vocalist Tim Carbone recalls, “All of us had been playing in various projects for years, and many of us had played together in different projects. But this time, we found ourselves all available at the same time.”

Songwriter/lead vocalist Todd Sheaffer continues, “When we started, we only loosely had the idea of getting together and playing some music. It started that informally; just getting together and doing some picking and playing. Over a couple of month period, we started working on some original songs, as well as playing some covers that we thought would be fun to play.” Shortly thereafter, they took five songs from their budding repertoire into a studio and knocked out a demo in just two days. Their soon-to-be manager sent that demo to a few festivals, and – to the band’s surprise – they were booked at the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival before they’d even played their first gig. This prompted them to quickly go in and record five more songs; the ten combined tracks of which made up their debut album, “The Black Bear Sessions.”

That was the beginning of Railroad Earth’s journey: since those early days, they’ve gone on to release five more critically acclaimed studio albums and one hugely popular live one called, “Elko.” They’ve also amassed a huge and loyal fanbase who turn up to support them in every corner of the country, and often take advantage of the band’s liberal taping and photo policy. But Railroad Earth bristle at the notion of being lumped into any one “scene.” Not out of animosity for any other artists: it’s just that they don’t find the labels very useful. As Carbone points out, “We use unique acoustic instrumentation, but we’re definitely not a bluegrass or country band, which sometimes leaves music writers confused as to how to categorize us. We’re essentially playing rock on acoustic instruments.”

Ultimately, Railroad Earth’s music is driven by the remarkable songs of front-man, Todd Sheaffer, and is delivered with seamless arrangements and superb musicianship courtesy of all six band members. As mandolin/bouzouki player John Skehan points out, “Our M.O. has always been that we can improvise all day long, but we only do it in service to the song. There are a lot of songs that, when we play them live, we adhere to the arrangement from the record. And other songs, in the nature and the spirit of the song, everyone knows we can kind of take flight on them.” Sheaffer continues: “The songs are our focus, our focal point; it all starts right there. Anything else just comments on the songs and gives them color. Some songs are more open than others. They ‘want’ to be approached that way - where we can explore and trade musical ideas and open them up to different territories. But sometimes it is what the song is about.”

GALACTIC was formed eighteen years ago in New Orleans, and they cut their teeth playing the biggest party in America: Mardi Gras, when the town shuts down entirely to celebrate. CARNIVALE ELECTRICOS is beyond a party record. It’s a carnival record that evokes the electric atmosphere of a whole city – make that, whole cities –vibrating together all on the same day, from New Orleans all down the hemisphere to the mighty megacarnivals of Brazil. Armed with a slew of carnival-ready guests— including Cyril and Ivan Neville, Mystikal, Mannie Fresh, Moyseis Marques, Casa Samba, the KIPP Renaissance High School Marching Band, and Al "Carnival Time" Johnson (who remakes his all-time hit)—GALACTIC whisks the listener around the neighborhoods to feel the Mardi Gras moment in all its variety of flavors.

If you're familiar with bluegrass music, then you're tuned in to some of what GREENSKY BLUEGRASS does. They're also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

This season features a look back in time, some risky business activities, mean girls, bluesy brothers and a few games involving hunger along with princesses looking to get married. The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

“Peak Experience” ticket packages return again this season for the ultimate Film on the Rocks experience. For each show guests can choose to roll like a VIP by selecting the Party Bus VIP ticket with food, drinks and a ride to and from the show from Rackhouse Pub or the Trading Post Pre-Party VIP ticket with catering by Steuben’s. Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The first film screened in the program was Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER. In 2012, more than 60,000people attended Film on the Rocks events.

Grammy Award-winning artist John Mayer will launch his first major tour in three years with a performance at Milwaukee's Summerfest on July 6, it was announced today. This marks John's first tour in support of Born and Raised, his latest studio album, and will run through the fall, with one dollar from each ticket sold benefitting NCIRE's work supporting returning Veterans. American Idol winner Phillip Phillips will open for John along the tour route (with the exception of Tuscaloosa, New Orleans, Kansas City and Atlantic City).

In advance of his tour, John will perform at an already-sold-out show at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Thursday, April 25 and will make a highly-anticipated appearance at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. A true heritage festival, "Jazz Fest" stands alone in presenting the highest caliber artists in such varied genres as gospel, blues, traditional and contemporary jazz, rock, R&B, Cajun, country, zydeco and much more. This year's Jazz Fest has performances scheduled for April 26 - 28 and May 2 - 5. On Monday, July 8, A Prairie Home Companion kicks off the Radio Romance Tour 2013, a 26-city, 27-concert, 30-day, coast-to-coast bus tour that will run from Washington to Maine. Starring host and writer Garrison Keillor, comedian Fred Newman, Richard Dworsky and the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band with guitarist Pat Donohue and violinist/mandolinist Richard Kriehn, these nonbroadcast shows offer more than two hours of duet singing (with either singer Aoife O’Donovan or singer/fiddler Sara Watkins, depending on the particular date), plus absurd improv with sound effects, Guy Noir Private Eye, poetry, outright foolishness, and the latest News from Lake Wobegon.

Garrison Keillor was born in 1942 in Anoka, Minnesota, and began his radio career as a freshman at the University of Minnesota. He went to work for Minnesota Public Radio in 1969, and on July 6, 1974, he hosted the first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion. Today, some 4 million listeners on more than 600 public radio stations tune in to the show each week. His many books include Lake Wobegon Days, The Book of Guys, and Guy Noir and the Straight Skinny (Viking). He is the host of the daily program The Writer’s Almanac and the editor of several anthologies of poetry, most recently, Good Poems: American Places (Viking). In 2006, Keillor played himself in the movie adaptation of his show, a film directed by Robert Altman. In 2007, he opened an independent bookstore, Common Good Books, in St. Paul.

Aoife O’Donovan, of Boston and Brooklyn, is lead singer of Crooked Still and Sometimes Why. She sang on The Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo-Yo Ma and Chris Thile and collaborated with the Dave Douglas Quintet on Be Still, listed by many jazz critics as one of the best albums of 2012. (Aoife will join the Radio Romance Tour on the July 8th – July 24th dates.)

Sound-effects man Fred Newman is an actor, writer, musician, and sound designer for film and TV. He is author of the book (and CD/CD-ROM) MouthSounds. Fred admits that, growing up, he was unceremoniously removed from several classrooms, “once by my bottom lip.”

The Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band is an all-purpose roots quintet covering blues, jug band, primitive jazz, good timey, R&B, swing, and hillbilly, with occasional ventures into classical, romantic, French café, music hall, surfer, spa, and Scandihoovian. The band is: Richard Dworsky (leader, keyboards), Pat Donohue (guitar), Gary Raynor (bass), Peter Johnson (percussion), and Richard Kriehn (fiddle, mandolin).

The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

“Peak Experience” ticket packages return again this season for the ultimate Film on the Rocks experience. For each show guests can choose to roll like a VIP by selecting the Party Bus VIP ticket with food, drinks and a ride to and from the show from Rackhouse Pub or the Trading Post Pre-Party VIP ticket with catering by Steuben’s. Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The first film screened in the program was Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER. In 2012, more than 60,000people attended Film on the Rocks events.

Spend a day with Thievery Corporation and you will see that their thoughtful curiosity about the world finds its way into their sophisticated, impeccably crafted musical soundscapes that reflect not only their broad appreciation for diverse styles of music (everything from Brazilian bossa nova and Jamaican dub reggae to vintage film soundtracks and psychedelic space rock), but also their take on the complicated times in which we live.

Since banding together 17 years ago, these two independent thinkers have taken a DIY approach to their musical and cultural interests, which has led to the formation of their own record label, ESL Music, through which Thievery Corporation release recordings by a slew of international artists, such as Federico Aubele, Ursula 1000, and Thunderball, as well as their own recordings. The label is run out of the basement of a Gothic-style three-level townhouse in Washington, D.C., that is also home to Thievery Corporation’s recording studio, which is filled with the latest high-tech gear as well as vintage guitars and Moog keyboards. The studio is where the two songwriters and producers have crafted their own output: six studio albums, three compilations, and numerous EP’s and singles — an impressive body of diverse work that has made Thievery Corporation one of the most influential and respected names on the electronic/dance music scene.

In June of 2011, the duo released its sixth studio album, Culture of Fear — a cinematic-sounding inquiry into space rock that straddles the sweet spot between funk and soul, with a bit of dub and reggae thrown in for good measure. Culture of Fear continues to address the socially conscious themes that Thievery Corporation have explored since 2002 when they released their third studio album, The Richest Man in Babylon, which incorporated protest music into their sound.

They followed Babylon with 2005’s The Cosmic Game, which featured politically minded collaborations with Perry Farrell, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, and David Byrne. In 2008, the duo paid homage to people’s resistance movements around the world with Radio Retaliation — setting a think-for-yourself agenda to eclectic sounds from Jamaica, Latin America, Asia, and The Middle East.

The album, which questioned the profit-driven mentality of corporate media, earned Thievery Corporation a Grammy Award nomination for Best Recording Packaging. (An image of Mexican revolutionary Subcomandante Marcos appears on its printed cardboard sleeve cover.)

“We’re probably more radical in our political beliefs than most of the hardcore punk bands,” Hilton says, “but at the same time, we’re realistic about what we can actually do. We feel like our role is to be commentators.” Adds Garza: “The best thing we can do is try to open people’s minds.” For both Hilton and Garza, the seeds for their shared philosophy were sown while growing up near the nation’s capital, which has spawned an abundance of progressive punk bands over the years, such as Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and Fugazi. “We’re influenced by that mentality, but the music doesn’t need to be about super aggressive guitars or hard-charging beats to convey that feeling,” Hilton says. “Sometimes you can just break things down and be more subtle.” Instead, the duo reveal their globally aware mindset by setting their lyrical diatribes to a lush mélange of international grooves, inviting vocalists and musicians from around the world, including Nigerian Afrobeat heir Femi Kuti, Persian singer Lou Lou, and Jamaican reggae toaster Sleepy Wonder, to appear on their recordings. As the L.A. Weekly put it: “Thievery Corporation’s dance hall is a delectably subversive refuge for dissent, a multilingual broadside against complacency and the powers that be.”

Over the years, Thievery Corporation has also become known for the carnival-esque atmosphere of their live shows, during which they bring out a 15-member live band of musicians and vocalists. The group has sold out shows at such famed venues as Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Hollywood Bowl, London’s 02, Shepherds Bush Empire, and the Theatro Vrahon Melina Merkouri in Athens, Greece, among many others. “To see Lou Lou, a Persian singer singing in Farsi, as America debates on a war with Iran, on stage with band members from all corners of the earth singing in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and so on, it makes people wonder,” Garza says. “And if you can get people to question the things around them, even just a little bit, that’s not such a bad thing.”

Each of the founding partners is committed to making this year’s event even bigger, as we look to give away backpacks to the first 5,000 children through the door and give away 15,000 school supplies per vendor throughout the day. A single day of impact on the students in the community is unlike any event in the metro area.

Yonder Mountain String Band has always played music by its own set of rules. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they’ve created their own music that transcends any genre. Dave Johnston points out “What could be more pure than making your own music.” Yonder’s sound cannot be classified purely as “bluegrass” or “string music” but rather it’s an original sound created from “looking at music from [their] own experiences and doing the best job possible.” The band continues to play by their own rules on their latest record The Show.

The Colorado-based foursome has crisscrossed the country over the past thirteen years playing such varied settings as festivals, rock clubs, Red Rocks Amphitheater in the band’s home state, and even the Democratic National Convention in Denver at Mile High Stadium opening for Barack Obama. Their loyal fanbase has been built from this diverse setting of music venues as fans latched on to their genre-defying original sound.

Released on the band’s own label in September 2009, The Show marks the second album that Yonder has worked with rock producer Tom Rothrock (Beck, Elliott Smith, Foo Fighters). While some might scratch their heads as to why a string band would want a rock producer, this decision was a natural choice for the band. “We don’t have a lot of nostalgia for the past,” says banjo player Dave Johnston. “You shouldn’t try to recreate the 1940s. I like to think of us as informed by the past and all the great performers before us. But we also want to look forward rather than give people something that has already been perfected.”

The Show has the similar acoustic instrumentation (Adam Aijala on guitar, Johnston on banjo, Jeff Austin on mandolin and Ben Kaufman on bass with all four singing) as many of its classic bluegrass forefathers. Though once again drums are present (as with the self-titled fourth album) with the great Pete Thomas of Elvis Costello’s bands adding a rhythmic backdrop to Yonder’s still-acoustic sound on six of the tracks. The record consists of thirteen songs all written by Yonder.

The band has long cited such varied influences as the bluegrass of Del McCoury, Johnson Mountain Boys, Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe, Osborne Brothers as well as the punk rock of Bad Religion, Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys. Somewhere in between these two tent poles are early 20th Century composers and alternative rock bands like Grandaddy and Postal Service. It’s all funneled through the band’s unique chemistry, honed since they first met at an informal club performance in 1998. With band members writing individually, in different pairings and as a collective, the album proves that this group is a collection of creative peers and you can hear it in the rich tapestry of music that makes up The Show.

Here Yonder offers such traditional bluegrass sounding fare as “Out Of The Blue” and “Casualty.” The band has explored its country roots in the past and does so again this time on “Steep Grade, Sharp Curves,” a song that describes the roads around its home base in Nederland as well as a particularly dangerous femme fatale. A little further from the roots is the impressionistic “Isolate” with its simple but ominous bass line and minimal arrangement. There is also a bevy of rockers like “Complicated,” “Fingerprints” and “Belle Parker,” a gem of a song about a hard-hearted woman. The band even finds some excellent middle ground between bluegrass and rock on “Fine Excuses” thanks in part to a scorching guitar solo from Adam Aijala. There is also the extended “Honestly” -- at eight-minutes, the longest song on the album, with a middle section that is an excellent platform for lengthier live excursions that are as improvisatory as any electric band on the live music circuit.

The band is a regular at bluegrass festivals like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the band's own Northwest String Summit as well as massive multi-stage events like Austin City Limits Festival, Bonnaroo and Rothbury. Fans are no doubt drawn to Yonder’s anything goes attitude, its humor and passion about music, and the band’s ability to stretch out live. “We love that people come to see us,” Johnston points out. “Everyone appreciates good music. Some people want to go to a recital and some people want to party.”

But as its fans know, Yonder Mountain String Band does something a little different, more than just a musical party. The Show is the band’s most varied and versatile album to date, and the summation of the journey that these guys are on together. It’s bluegrass for the masses, acoustic tunes filled with dazzling chops, and it’s fun to boot. The humble Johnston sounds as surprised as anyone by the band’s success, but knows that it all boiled down to chemistry, which has never changed. “Somewhere down there we all kind of recognized that we had something unique,” he explains. “But there is no way I could have imagined the amount of success that the band has had.”

This season features a look back in time, some risky business activities, mean girls, bluesy brothers and a few games involving hunger along with princesses looking to get married. The season kicks off on Wednesday, May 29 with BACK TO THE FUTURE, the first in the series of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd journeys backwards and forward in time.

Two of this season’s highlights will be anniversary screenings of two of the seven films in the season which have never screened at Film on the Rocks -- a 25th anniversary showing of RISKY BUSINESS (Tuesday, June 4) and a 30th anniversary screening of DIE HARD (Tuesday, July 2). The season concludes on Tuesday, August 13 with the cult classic, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

“Peak Experience” ticket packages return again this season for the ultimate Film on the Rocks experience. For each show guests can choose to roll like a VIP by selecting the Party Bus VIP ticket with food, drinks and a ride to and from the show from Rackhouse Pub or the Trading Post Pre-Party VIP ticket with catering by Steuben’s. Both VIP ticket options include free food, drinks and preferred seating in the amphitheater. A “Peak Experience” kick-off to the season will take place at Rackhouse Pub on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm featuring a complimentary light buffet and drink specials. This event is free and open to the public.

Film on the Rocks is a collaborative production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues and was created to provide an affordable opportunity for the community to enjoy films and live entertainment at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The first film screened in the program was Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER. In 2012, more than 60,000people attended Film on the Rocks events.

“When American electronic music artist and Colorado native Derek Vincent Smith takes his show out of the warehouse and moves it outdoors to the Red Rocks stage, he provides a multi-sensory experience that ranks high on the list of top summer concerts,” said The Denver Post’s Reverb, reviewing the first show of Pretty Lights’ sold-out, two-night stand at the legendary amphitheatre last year. “Smith fueled the amped-up crowd…with more than two hours of music and light shows...”

On July 2, Pretty Lights will release a new studio album – A Color Map of the Sun. “Around The Block,” the first single, features Talib Kweli. USA Today praised its soul-funk groove, placing the track atop its “Playlist” of notable new songs. The resulting album is analog electronica – soulful, electro hip-hop that pays respect to music’s immense power to touch listeners on every level. A Color Map of the Sun is the first Pretty Lights album to be released physically and digitally simultaneously. Reggae on the Rocks has been going for 26 years now, which entail 30 Reggae festival dates. One of the premiere reggae festivals in the world “Reggae On The Rocks” will take place at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on August 24. Reggae On The Rocks has been showcasing the best of the international legendary and upcoming artists available.

This Pop/R&B music group was founded in Chicago in 1969 by Maurice White and his brother Verdine. Maurice had been a drummer for jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis's quartet and Verdine was a classically trained bassist. Their goal was to form a band that blended soul, funk, gospel, blues, rock, and jazz. They released a self-titled debut album for Warner Brothers in 1970 and followed it up the next year with the album The Need of Love. Philip Bailey was brought on as a co-lead singer and Ralph Johnson as a drummer-percussionist-vocalist for the album Last Days and Time for Columbia.

In 1973 Earth Wind & Fire scored their first gold record with Head to the Sky and their first R&B Top Ten hit with "Mighty Mighty" from Open Your Eyes. The group's breakthrough to a mass audience came in 1975 with the release of the album That's the Way of the World, which was the soundtrack to a film in which the group appeared. It featured the No. 1 hit single "Shining Star." In 1975 the band released the partially live album Gratitude. During the recording of 1976's Spirit, longtime producer, arranger and songwriter Charles Stepney passed away. In 1977 Earth Wind & Fire released the album All 'n All and won three Grammy Awards, one of which was for their version of the Beatles "Got to Get You Into My Life." 1979's I Am featured the popular disco single "Boogie Wonderland" and the hit ballad "After the Love Has Gone." Several albums in the early 1980s did almost as well, but after 1983's "Electric Universe," the group disbanded. It re-formed for the 1987 release Touch the World.

The1990s saw the release of the albums Heritage, Millenium, and In the Name of Love. Known for their spectacular stage shows, Earth Wind & Fire helped to bring African influences into American pop culture. One of Maurice White's trademarks was a handheld African thumb piano called a kalimba, which was used in many of their recordings.

Following their successful summer tour, former Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh & Bob Weir and their band Furthur return to Colorado to begin their much anticipated Fall Tour 2013 that will find the legendary group returning to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO, for 4 magical nights on September 19, 20, 21 & 22nd.

Fans can expect Lesh & Weir to push the musical envelope with jaw-dropping improvisations and loving renditions of Grateful Dead classics, with an all star band that includes keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (RatDog), drummer Joe Russo (Benevento - Russo Duo, Trey Anastasio), guitarist John Kadlecik (Dark Star Orchestra), and vocalists Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson.

Atlantic Records recording group Straight No Chaser has announced details of their upcoming “Under The Influence North American Tour.” The dates celebrate the upcoming release of the acclaimed a cappella group’s eagerly awaited new album, “UNDER THE INFLUENCE,” set to arrive in stores and at all DSPs on May 7th. The “Under The Influence North American Tour” gets underway on October 16th in Columbia, MO, and then continues through December 22nd, culminating with seven shows in five days in their home state of Indiana, including four closing shows in two days at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis.

Presale tickets to the newly announced dates will be available to all Chasers – members of the Straight No Chaser Fan Club – beginning Monday, April 22 at 4:00pm EST. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, April 30.
